WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Wednesday paid commendation to justice Akaka after the Democratic senator from island said he would not essay reelection.

Akaka, 86, describes himself as the only Chinese-American member of the US senate and prototypal US senator of autochthonous American ancestry.

"Danny Akaka answered the call to help right after broad edifice by joining the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II," said Obama, who spent such of his possess immatureness in Hawaii.
